Welcome Spring…and a Cold?! Oh Come On!

Give me a break!

It’s my own fault really.

I cannot resist kissing my nephews chubby cheeks….slobbery or not!  How can one little man produce so many boogers?  I’m sure anyone who’s been around a sick baby can relate to that.

Well, I’m definitely paying for it now.  (still worth it)

The first day of spring brought on hope for warmer days and life coming back to the plants and grass but there wasn’t much life in this gal.

You know the feeling; razors in your throat, stinging watering eyes, pressure in your head, completely exhausted muscles…..all the good stuff. It was time for some serious intervention so I brought out the big guns to help my body kick this colds butt.

I really believe in supporting my body to heal itself and there are many different simple ways you can do this naturally.

  • Down some green juice. Juicing allows you to get a super high dose of very important micronutrients into your body. These vitamins and minerals help your immune system power through the bugs and viruses that are trying to corrupt it. So, drink up friends!
  • Drink water. We all know we should drink water, but when you’re sick, drinking water is extra important. It’s about preventing your body from becoming dehydrated which would put it in an even more fragile state. We want to create the optimal foundation for your body to kick in to high gear and heal itself. Water will help clear out toxins and secretions, control dehydration from fever and lessen nausea and vomiting. (1)
  • Drink herbal tea. When swallowing feels like you’re trying to down un-chewed toast (ouch!!) it’s best to get a blend that will help coat your throat. I went for this one by Traditional Medicinales called Throat Coat and it really does help! It contains lemon, which is good for your throat because it can disinfect the bacteria that may be residing in there causing the inflammation and Echinacea which is widely known for boosting your immune system to shorten the duration of your cold.
  • Gargle with essential oils. I will put two drops of oil in about ¾ of an ounce of water and gargle. The blend I use is called, “On Guard” by doTERRA. This blend is known as there protective blend and for good reason. It supports healthy immune function and contains cleansing properties to help your body rid itself of any foreign invaders.
  • Diffuse essential oils. By diffusing essential oils you are not only getting the aromatic effects of them in your body, but you are also cleansing the air while you’re at it. No need for the rest of your family to go down with you! My cold and flu blend? Again, all doTERRA oils; 2 drops On Guard, 1 drop Frankincense, 1 drop Melaleuca and 2 drops Lemon.
  • Eat soup. Nothing says, “it’s ok sweetheart, everything will be ok”, like slurping down a steaming hot bowl of vibrant soup! The water content for hydrating, the heat for a decongestant and comfort, the salt for helping a sore throat and the amount of nutrients you can pack in to one bowl! Not to mention the good vibes that I get when I remember my mom making me soup when I was sick.

On the mend,
